Design Engineer

Cummins Bridgeway is looking to fill a Design Engineer position in the New Hudson Engineering Department.
Job Summary:
Design, maintain, and support engineering activities related to power units manufactured by Cummins Bridgeway, LLC. / Cummins Power Products.
Responsibilities:
- Support the high horsepower, heavy duty and mid-range diesel engine business, along with the mid and low range power generation business by providing engineering services for new product and new application design and development.
- Utilize Pro Engineer software as a design tool to develop new Cummins Power Products models, incorporating customer driven / specific features.
- Provide technical support to Cummins Bridgeway / Cummins Power Products, partners and customers.
- Manage design projects from implementation to final release.
- Develop and maintain project timelines, assuring that projects are completed as scheduled.
- Participate in new product development by translating customer wants into technical engineering requirements.
- Maximize computer modeling techniques to eliminate first-fit concerns with new products.
- Maintain a high level of accountability for quality and quantity of work performed.
- Utilize and develop engineering standards and procedures to maintain consistent performance and on-time delivery of projects.
- Conceptualize, design, develop and launch applications of new products into a production environment.
- Develop and implement engineering improvements driven by involvement with continuous improvement programs, engineering innovation programs, Six-Sigma programs and customer driven programs.
- Support power unit production issues as necessary.
- Ensure that all components meet or exceed Cummins application guidelines.
- Coordinate design intent to vendors or suppliers.
- Answer routine calls where appropriate and respond in a timely manner.
- Assist customers as necessary.
- Operate Lotus Notes to effectively communicate with other entities in the Cummins network.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- Associates degree plus related experience or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering desired.
- Expertise in ProEngineer design systems.
- High mechanical aptitude and ability to apply sound design principles.
- Knowledge and work experience with gas and/or diesel engines.
- History of solid engineering innovation performance.
- Experience in mechanical, hydraulic, electric and pneumatic systems.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in AutoCAD, ProEngineer - Wildfire.
- Superior interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in windows based Microsoft Office programs.
